1. The service

ShipRate ("we") provides online freight quoting, shipment scheduling, tracking, and related logistics tools. Quotes are estimates based on carrier tariffs on file; the final charge is confirmed when your shipment is scheduled.

2. Your account

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for everything done under your account. New accounts can get quotes immediately; scheduling shipments is enabled after we approve your account.

3. Your responsibilities as a shipper

You warrant that weights, dimensions, piece counts, and commodity descriptions you enter are accurate. Accessorial charges (re-weighs, re-classes, missed pickups) caused by inaccurate information are your responsibility. Dangerous goods must be declared with a valid UN number and class before rating; undeclared dangerous goods may be refused and any resulting carrier penalties charged back to you.

4. Quotes, payment, cancellation

Quoted rates exclude taxes unless stated. Payment is collected when a shipment is scheduled. You may cancel an unscheduled load at any time at no charge. Paid loads cancelled before carrier dispatch are refunded to the original payment method; loads already tendered to a carrier may incur carrier cancellation fees, which will be disclosed before you confirm.

5. Quoted rates are estimates

All freight rates displayed by the quote tool are estimates based on current carrier rate data and fuel surcharges, which are subject to change without notice. Actual charges may differ due to fuel surcharge volatility, carrier rate changes, re-weigh, reclassification, or additional accessorial services. A quote does not constitute an offer or guarantee of service, pricing, or carrier availability. Final pricing is confirmed only at the time of booking.

6. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any shipment is limited to the freight charges you paid for that shipment. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost profits or production downtime. Carrier liability for loss or damage in transit is governed by the carrier's terms and applicable transportation law; we will help you file a claim but do not underwrite cargo ourselves unless you purchase additional insurance through us.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service, probe or disrupt our systems, misrepresent shipment details, or use the service for unlawful purposes. We may suspend accounts that do so.

8. Changes and termination

We may update these terms; material changes will be posted here. Either party may terminate the account relationship at any time; you can delete your account from Account settings.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable there.

What we collect

Account information: name, company, email, and password (stored as a one-way hash — we never see your password). Shipment information: addresses, package details, and references you enter to get quotes or schedule freight. Payment information: processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card numbers. Usage data: basic request logs we use to keep the service running and prevent abuse.

How we use it

To provide quotes, schedule and track shipments, operate your account, prevent fraud, and communicate with you about the service (quotes, approvals, receipts). We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Carriers (only the shipment details needed to move your freight), Stripe (payments), and our hosting/email providers — each bound to use it only for the service. We disclose information if required by law.

Your rights

You can view and update your profile in Account settings, and delete your account (with all personal data we hold) there at any time. To request a copy of your data or ask questions, use the contact page. We respond to Canadian privacy requests under PIPEDA.

Cookies and storage

We use browser local storage for your sign-in session token and interface preferences (like navigation state). We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

Retention and security

Shipment records are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax, and legal obligations. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; sessions are revocable tokens that expire after 30 days.

Do I need an account to get a quote?

Yes — a free account. It takes less than a minute, and it lets us save your quotes, address book, and shipments under your name.

How do the instant quotes work?

We rate your shipment against carrier tariffs on file so you can compare available freight options instantly. Live carrier API rates appear automatically once our carrier integrations are connected.

Why can't I schedule a shipment yet?

New accounts start quote-only while we verify them — scheduling unlocks after we approve your account, and we'll notify you. If you need it urgently, contact us.

How many quotes do I get?

Free accounts get 5 quotes per month, Starter 50, Pro unlimited. Unused quotes don't roll over.

Can I ship dangerous goods?

Declared dangerous goods only: enter a valid UN number and class before rating. DG shipments go through a review step before scheduling, at no charge until a carrier accepts the load.

How do I pay?

By card through Stripe when you schedule a shipment. Paid loads cancelled before carrier dispatch are refunded automatically.

Where do you ship?

Across Canada and cross-border to the US, wherever our contracted carriers run. If a lane returns no rates, contact us — we'll price it manually.
